Been in business for 80 years. What hey are good. Go out of your way good? No, I've had better. Unless your only coming from OP then going out of you way isn't too far.

Wow, these are totally worth the drive! It doesn't hurt that Old Orchard beach is gorgeous (although that asshole of an ocean DID eat my Betsey Johnson sunglasses). Pier fries are thick, crunchy, waffle cut fries. Drench 'em in vinegar, eat them in 2 seconds and then return for more. YUM!

Pier French Fries is the reason I will be a fat bride. We moved here two months ago and we have had their delicious poutine at least 6 times. I leave the house to ride my bike, walk the dog, or take a jog, and still I end up, whatever the weather, at Pier French Fries. I shovel those hot delicious crinkle cuts covered in gravy and curd into my mouth with reckless abandon. The best way to enjoy them (is without shame of course) and on the porch with some delicious beer.

I'm beginning to think that everything at OOB just sucks: the pizza, the fried dough, the sliders, the lame-o bars, the overpriced rancid fried seafood, the pathetic puny lobster rolls, the lack of any surf whatsoever at the overcrowded beach, the decrepit amusement park rides, the stale salt water taffy, $15 parking!!!. It's not even worth visiting for the kitsch effect........ But the fries at this joint are A-OK, and they also serve vinegar which is cool. Stay off the pier and come to this pier instead!!

So we were on our way back Portland and thought we would try some of these fries that everyone raves about. We ordered them well done and they were really pretty bad. Not crispy - just mushy. Five Guys has much better fries. Must be the legend that keeps people coming back here.

Brought mom here while on vacation because it was part of her childhood. She was happy with them, the taste, the memories it conjured. Personally, I'm not fan of vinegar on my fries! I felt they were very over priced at $2.00 for a few fries but for nostalgia sakes- this place makes people happy.

Had the famous pier fries. A large box of pier fries were $6.00 they fill the box until it over flows. I Loaded them with vinegar and salt and they were awesome really good fries. Place says it's been around for over 80 years I can see why great fries unique taste and large servings. Always busy but line goes fast. Parking in the area averages $10-15 plenty of other places visit at old orchard beach.

Nothing "healthy" or "hipster" about Pier French Fries in OOB. However, it's been a summer ritual of mine for as long as I remember. Make sure you get a box (to share with that special someone), and add a little vinegar, light salt, and dip them in ketchup. Summertime in Maine, where the "livin is easy," as Ella Fitzgerald sang.

I'm not sure if they were "THE BEST" fries! They were really good! Was here at 12:00 a.m. Saturday night completely sober and it's definitely the place to be for some hilarious people watching!! The guys behind the counter are really nice and I'd definitely go back for sure!!

the BEST french fries and chicken tenders..omg!! tried other places on the strip and we had to keep going back to this one.

Go here. Period. The greasiest, soggiest, tastiest friggin french fries known to man. A pint's probably enough, but a box is just pure heaven. After dropping em in the fryer, they pluck em out and dump em right in front of you, pouring enough salt to make a horse drop dead. You only live once, Pier Fries just make that one a little shorter...but damn tastier.

There will never be a French fry like these. Fresh always hot.. Have to probably wait a minute or two to eat them.. Vinegar and ketchup is my favorite and not expensive. I've been going to OOB for 29 years now and my dad's side had been going over 60 and nothing has changed. These fries are amaZing. Pop over and have a slice of bills pizza and a coke for the best lunch on the pier.. EVER

These are some wicked good non fancy crinkle fries! Throw a healthy dose of vinegar and salt, and you're good to go. This is a must when in town, and looking for fries. There's plenty of fried food options. And only Lisa's rivals their fries, but there's not much competition there. I've also tried the poutine, which was pretty awesome, albeit my first time having it, so I can't be an official judge on it. I'm sure there's much better poutine to be had, but this was yummy! They also offer drinks, hot dogs, fried dough, and more.

I love their fries and don't think they are the greasiest fries I've had. I really like how you can put different stuff on them. I really enjoyed them. I also liked the fried dough

Any stop at OOB is not complete without a box of pier fries. Always a crowd near the counter but the wait is usually only a few minutes. Look forward to these fries all year long.

Best fries in the world (no kidding, that's why I rated them 5 stars)! This is always our first stop when we hit town and we come by almost daily while were in OOB because we cannot get enough of them! Hot, fresh and tasty, especially when doused with a little vinegar and salt!!

I know this place is legendary, but they just weren't amazing. Been going to OOB since I was a kid so when I went back to Maine to visit, this was definitely a planned stop. Fries were good, but kind of soggy.

If there were a French Frie heaven this would be it. Their fries ooze deliciousness, especially topped with salt & vinegar...I am literally drooling as I write this. In addition to the fries they also whip up a mean fried dough, slather it with butter and powdered sugar and serve it up on a medium pizza sized plate. It's a meal in itself and worth every single calorie going down. If you come to OOB you must stop here, if you don't you are insane and totally missing out on a staple East Coast snack.

Great fries... Get the big box. Can't wait to try the Poutine there.

Good fries. Never sampled anything else here, and don't intend to. It's straight forward, and you're not going to belly up to the register because it's going to help you fit into that speedo in a week. Plain old comfort fries. Great stuff.

The French fries are as good or better than Lisa's, and I like that you can get a smaller serving than at Lisa's (so I can get them more often!).

Pier fries are the best..Sooo Yummmy.

I love french fries. These were not that great. Overrated for sure. Meal-ly, not crunchy and kind of flavorless. They were hot & greasy but we didn't even finish them. I love french fries. They look better than they taste because they really have no taste. They deserve respect for lasting 40 years but these were average at best. I'll try them again but...

  • Ash D.

The fries are... okay. They are soggy and thick. I can make better fries at home but hey, it's a tradition that I get them every summer.

Went last weekend and got some fries. They were just how I remember them. Fresh and hot. Very tasty. I put a lot of salt and vinegar on them. Perfect! I love these fries! They are the perfect beach french fry in my opinion.

When you're in the mood for crinkle cut fries doused in vinegar and salt, this is the place to hit up. They sell so much that they are guaranteed to be piping hot when they give them to you. If you opt for a box, make sure you have plenty of friends to share with.

French fries are not easy and these are the best you will find. I have been eating these since I was a kid and they are perfection in a potato. Krinkle cut, cruncy on the outside with a rich potato flavor inside. Make a special stop for the fries or by all means grab some when you are at the beach.

  • Kyle M.

The french fries are done right here: Double cooked to get that perfect crunch with a soft inside. The smell was intoxicating upon passing the place. The fried dough though could have used a lot more sugar on it!

These are better than ordinary fries. These are like pomme frites. I remember Friendly's restaurants made a similar fry years ago. The fries were longer and thinner, and fried in a light oil, but still very good. But then Friendly's switched to a McDonald's-like fry. Not a bright idea, Friendly's.

Pier Fries are amazing! Best french fries that I have ever eaten! My aunt has been walking by this place for the past three years, so I had to jump in and introduce her to their deliciousness! They are chunky and chock full of potato and flavor, juicy and crispy on out the outside but fried in soybean oil and not greasy. These fries are jam-packed with potato flavor and will not make you feel gross after eating them. Three of us split a cup for $1.50 and it was money well spent. This place knows the fine art of the french fry, and they are worth a trip to OOB to eat little pieces of potato heaven. Wow!

It was good, but after all the rave reviews I couldn't help but feel underwhelmed. The amount I got was also pretty skimpy for what I paid.

A summer is not complete with a trip to OOB for some pier fries! The man and I have been known to make the 30 minute or so drive from my mother's house and put $1 in a parking meter, just to indulge in the heaven that is these fries!

Pier Fries. Oh you are so sinfully delicious. They are NOT waffle fries as another yelper mentioned. These are thick, crispy on the outside, delicious on the inside, crinkle cut fries. They are actually not located on the pier ( they have some there but they are posers) the real pier fries are on Old Orchard Road. You walk right by them on your way to the beach. I am from Maine, my mother born and raised in OOB and I know way too much OOB history. They are called pier fries because once upon a time they where on the pier. Then the pier caught fire and fell into the ocean. The pier that is now their is only about a third the length of the original and has some touristy shops and a slightly sketchy nightclub at the end of it. OOB has a ghetto little amusement park managed by my former high school Trigonometry teacher and a strip of night clubs. It is like the less classy, not old enough to gamble, little sister, to Atlantic City. There are mini golf places, tacky little gift shops, you can buy a knockoff coach purse or two and pay .25 to use a less then clean bathroom. They have an Amtrak station during the summer months. Right beside the station is a restaurant that only serves weird deep fried items like oreos and twinkies. You can see Canadians in their Speedos and the rip currents would make me think twice about bringing small children here...wait so would the speedos and the hairy french ladies. But I am off topic..... Back to the fries. Pier fries sells cups of fries or a box. They cut the potatoes themselves then they are soaked in sea water ( I think these guys should get credit for the beginning of the sea salt trend). Then they are fried and delivered hot to you. I recommend vinegar. They are so delicious. You will be addicted.

It's a darn good thing that guilty pleasures are cheap in Maine. If you haven't had a chance to travel up to the northernmost state in the contiguous US, make sure this place is one of your stops when you get there. Old Orchard Beach is a summer hot spot for New Englanders. It's got some Vegas flare while still keeping a bit of smaller town sense. There's a fantastic pier to walk with lots of restaurants and shops. There's an amusement park and nightclub row, too. Back to the fries though. These thick, deep fried crinkle fries are to DIE for. Oh my goodness. For a medium sized cup of them, you only pay $2.50. Pier French Fries is just a small vendor in a string of vendors/stores. It doesn't look like much, but I don't think I have ever tasted such amazing fries. Ok, just writing that makes me want to hop in my car and go get some...

BEST FRIES EVER... fresh cut from Maine taters, hot, with salt and vinegar...Heaven!!! then get a slice of Bill's pizza. I like mine with cheese, garlic salt, oregano and celery salt. Yummy yum yum. I have been known to drive up from central CT just for this meal. No lie.

Delicious! The best I've ever had ANYWHERE!

What can you say about Pier Fries except that they're the best fries on this planet? Anyone who doesn't think so doesn't understand the fine art of the french fry.
